I Can Read [我会读]series is a very popular learning materials amongst parents in Singapore. It uses a progressive approach to aid parents in the teaching of chinese language to their kids.

Level 1 focuses on teaching basic words (生词), Level 2 introduces the child to simple sentences (句子), Level 3 is made up one or two stories, made up of very short sentences (简单的书), while Level 4 and 5 are short stories (故事).

What is included in Level 2?

This series consists of 12 books. There are 10 phrases in each book, totalling 120 phrases. We start with phrases and short sentences, then slightly longer sentences. The purpose is to help your child express himself properly in Mandarin. The sentence structure does not vary much, so as to make it easy for your child to read and learn.

Besides the books, we have included 136 word cards. These are new words found in the Level 2 books (not taught in Level 1). Use these word cards to teach your child before teaching him/her sentences from the books. This will ensure that your child knows all the words of the books.

Level 2 is recommended for children age 1 to 5+.

Recommended Way to Teach

To Teach New Words

Start off with 5 words in each session. Conduct 3 sessions daily with the same 5 words. Do the same thing for 5 days. On the 6th day onwards, add a new card and retire an old word each day. Over time, your kid would be able to build up his/her vocabulary.

To Teach Sentences

Teach the same 5 sentences 2 to 3 times a day, for a few days. When your child is familiar with the 5 sentences, teach the next 5 sentences.
