Enemy Pie is written by Derek Munson, illustrated by Tara Calahan King. This is the chinese translated version. This book was won numerous awards, and has been translated into numerous languages as a book. Some of the awards includes 2003 Peace Education Fund Children’s Book Award Winner, 2003 Missouri Show-Me Award Winner, Second Place, 2004-2005 Volunteer State Book Award Nominee (Tennessee), etc.

The Story

This story is written from the perspective of a young boy. He did not like the new boy who just moved into his neighbourhood, Jeremy Ross. Young boy avoided Jeremy like a plague and even listed him top of his Enemy List (Oh well, there is only 1 name in his Enemy List anyway). Young boy's clever daddy taught him to make an "enemy pie", and taught him the best way to "deal with this enemy". Young boy eventually overcome his dislike for Jeremy and the two boys turns into the best of friends. Read the book to find out exactly what this clever father did.

In our child's growing up years, there will be friends whom they can get along with and those whom they could not. How would your child react to those whom they could not get along with? This is one aspect of parenting that is often being overlooked. This book may be used as a preamble for parents to start a discussion with their child on this topic. From this book, the child can learn not to pre-judge their friends but to spend time to understand them better. You may not like someone until you know them better.

Available in soft cover, simplified chinese. No hanyu pinyin. For reading to the child, this book may be suitable for children of 6 years and above. For self-read, we would recommend this book for children who are 10 and above.

If you are looking for books on the topic of friendship, you can also check out My Friendship Is For Rent, a story about a lonely gorilla who yearns to have friends and came up with the idea of renting out his friendship. Can friendship be bought or measured by monetary terms? Read the book to find out.
