A Colour Of His Own is an English original, written and illustrated by Leo Lionni, an award-winning author who has passed on in 1999 at the age of 89. This is the Chinese translated version.

The Story

As we all know, chameleon changes colour according to its surrounding. However, this unique trait makes one chameleon very unhappy, because unlike all the other animals, he has no colour of his own. One day, he meets another chameleon and they decide to stay together. Even if they have no colour of their own, they will alway have same colour.

This would be an excellent book to teach kids about colours. Parents can teach their kid about primary and secondary colours as well as colour blending.  For older children, parents can explain how nature enables different animals to survive. For example, a chameleon changes colour to camouflage and hide itself from its predators, etc. Parents can also teach their child to be happy with who they are.

This book is in hard cover. Simplified chinese. There are no hanyu pinyin. For reading to the child, this book may suit children of 2 years old and above. For self read, we would recommend this book for children above 5.
