Description

Many Moons is an English original, written by James Thurber and illustrated by Louis Slobodkin. This book has won the Caldecott Medal in 1944. We carry the Chinese translated version.

The Story

Many Moons is about a sick princess, Princess Lenore, who wants the moon. Her father (the king) is enraged when the wizards, the Lord High Chamberlain and the mathematician could not get the moon. In the end, it was the court jester who goes straight to ask the princess and realizes that she thinks the moon is only as big as her thumbnail and made of gold. He goes to the goldsmith to make a necklace with a gold sphere on it, and gives it to the princess. The king then worries that the princess might see the real moon at night and realises that the necklace is not the real moon. Read the book to find out what the witty jester did to solve the problem.

This is a nice book to read to enjoy the story as it is. This book is in hard cover. Simplified chinese. There are no hanyu pinyin. For reading to the child, this book may suit children of 7 years old and above. For self read, we would recommend this book for children above 10.
