Description

My Friendship Is For Rent is written by a Taiwanese author, Fan Shu Zhen.

The Story

In a bid to find friends to play with, the lonely Gorilla came up with an idea - renting out his friendship. He advertised his "friendship" for $5/hour".

Little Mimi came along, saw the advertisement and offered Gorilla $1 for an hour of playtime. Of course Gorilla was more than happy to take up the offer. Everyday, Mimi paid him $1 in exchange for an hour of playtime.

Over time, as their friendship develops, their playtime slowly stretched beyond an hour. One fine day, Gorilla decided to keep his timer aside and brought along cookies to share with Mimi, but Mimi did not turn up.

Mimi has ran out of money. It was then that Gorilla realised friendship cannot be bought. He immediately amended the advertisement to "My Friendship for Free!"....

Some kids have problems opening up and taking the first step to introduce themselves to new friends, especially in a new environment. Parents can teach their child to take proactive steps to approach their peers in schools..

Look out for the little mouse in the storybook who would appear in the background of every other page. Parents can share with their kid that there are children (such as, the mouse) who yearn to play together with the Gorilla and Little Mimi, but may be too shy to take the first step. Gorilla and Mimi should look around and invite these lonesome kids to play together.

Parents can use this book to teach their child about the value of friendship, and that friendship is based on sincerity, and not by monetary terms.

This book is in soft cover, simplified chinese and there are no hanyu pinyin. For self-read, this book is suitable for children above 10 years old.
